Heyyy! This is the fifth post for this blog series, and I'm feeling kinda proud about it. Thank you for all your feedback. I truly appreciate it and hope to bring you more of the flyest women out there!
I'm not sure how I started following Britney, but I'm SO glad that I did! When I reached out to her for this interview, she confirmed just how dope she really is. You're gonna love this one!
Peace and Blessings,
Houston, Texas’s Britney Boyd is the owner and operator of Her Guiltless Garb, a wardrobe styling & closet organization business. She is also a dedicated personal style blogger that creates content for the unapologetic woman who wants to learn how to create guiltless outfits with ease. With artsy flair and talent from birth, Britney has been engulfed in the creative scene ever since she was a little girl. Her infatuation with fashion began in elementary school and led her to graduate from The Art Institute of Houston with a BS in Fashion Retail & Management. Her keen fashion sense encouraged her to focus her efforts on styling and personal image due to the impactful response it had on women. She believes that dressing well is not just for show. It's an extreme image booster, and every woman should experience the liberation of extraordinary style!
Brownstone Closets: I love how your IG feed has great pops of color! Do you have a favorite color?
Britney Boyd: Thank you so much, girl! Let's see, it's kind of hard to pick just one, considering that I love color in general. However, if we're speaking about colors that I think look best on my skin tone, I'd have to say red, olive, mustard, and camel.
BC: What is your "go to" piece for that lazy day when you still want to look fab?
BB: Absolutely, positively the kimono! It's such an easy piece that gives you an instant style booster by just adding it to even the simplest of outfits.
BC: Favorite brand(s)? Why?
BB: I'm not really a brand girl, to be honest. I don't go brand shopping. I go shopping. I like what I like, and if it's quality material and speaks to my personal style, I'm all for it!
BC: Do you plan your outfits or step into your closet and decide what to wear based on your mood?
BB: Depends on the day or occasion. Sometimes, I rely on my favorite lazy-day pieces to get me through, like ripped jeans, white tees, and vibrant kimonos. If I'm attending an important event, I'll sometimes start looking a month in advance to make sure I give myself time to regroup in case my Plan A fails.
BC: Let me paint a scene: Shopper A is in one of her favorite stores and picks up the most fabulous dress, BUT the price ain't so fabulous, so she puts it down. Next thing you know, Shopper B picks it up, and now Shopper A is thinking, "I feel like splurging." So, she tells Shopper B that the dress is damaged. Shopper B puts it down and continues on. Shopper A proceeds to the register with the dress. Is she wrong?
BB: Hmmmm...pretty, pretty tough question. I'd have to say that she's wrong for lying to Shopper B. She only really wanted it after someone else had picked it up, which is what a lot of women tend to do. It was greed. And greed isn't a good trait to possess. It's her favorite store, so obviously she loves the pieces, but the price wasn't in her current budget. Because she couldn't afford it, she would rather lie, prevent someone else from getting it, and break the bank. Lesson to be learned: don't block someone else's blessing because you haven't received yours yet. What's made for you will be made for you to obtain.
BC: I love how on one of your Instagram posts you mentioned dressing for you! Tell us more about why that's so important.
BB: Dressing for you is one of the most important elements of personal style development. I always encourage my clients to do so because when you focus on dressing for yourself, you dress your absolute best! No one knows your body like you do. So knowing what you like, capitalizing on that, and using it to create banging outfits that fit you properly is the smartest thing you could ever do when it comes to your wardrobe. Ain't nobody got time to pretend or wish they were the size that every IG model portrays is "perfect." When you dress your body properly, with pieces that fit correctly, look great on you, bring out your skin tone, and reflect what you truly love, you get perfection!!
BC: Your closet: is it your dream or a beautiful nightmare that needs some TLC?
BB: It's definitely a work in progress. Of course I always keep things organized, but as I've matured, my style is evolving. I find myself enjoying and appreciating things that I once didn't. So, I've purged A LOT of things, and I'm perfectly ok with that. Separation can be painful on a girl, but I'm currently focusing on building the best wardrobe for my lifestyle and style evolution...and I must say, I'm enjoying every bit of it!
BC: There are so many great fashion bloggers out there, name some of your favorites.
BB: Deep sigh...You know, there are SOOOOOO MANY fashion bloggers that it's honestly hard to really keep up. Because of that, my taste and style has changed for blogs that I frequent or even subscribe to. I love visuals. I mean, c'mon they're everything! But for me, it's gotta be more than just a cute girl in pretty clothes. I need some substance for me to latch on. I’m not so much of a trend watcher and have kind of strayed away from girls that heavily wear lots and lots of trends or showcase mainstream fashion. In my opinion, that's not style. I do however appreciate a great personality, an awesome writer with relatable content, and of course unmatched and true style.
Anywho, I'm totally rambling, lol. Ok, blogs I like...ok, got it. I'll name 5 and express why. I hope it's not too many. Ok, here we go...in no particular order.
Rochelle with Beauticurve.com: She's a plus-size blogger, and even though I'm not a plus girl, I APPRECIATE & SALUTE a woman who knows how to dress her figure. She executes this extremely well and her style is definitely crush-worthy.
Tiffany with the-werk-place.com: Why? Why the heck not? She's the epitome of bomb!! Her style is literally unmatched! I have yet to find someone who can wear so many layers, colors and prints as she does and be as corky and unique as she is without looking over done. She nails it! She's a mix between Tracee Ellis Ross (my all-time fav), Solo (another style icon of mine), and Sarah Jessica Parker! EVERYTHING!!
Queen a.k.a @queen_nuh on Instagram isn't a fashion blogger, but she's one that I definitely check for, so I have to mention her. I've actually connected with her on a more personal level and her style... (lost for words)... elegance at its best!!! If I could describe her in one word, I'd say, "stunning." I mean when I grow up, have kids and a husband, I wanna slay like her. Like...I can't speak right now. Just look her up!
Ebonne with ebonneholyfield.com: Yup, Evander Holyfield's daughter. I don't like her because of that though, lol. I mainly visit her blog for GREAT content!! Her inspirational and lifestyle content is lit! Like, she's on her A Game, and I have to give props when they're due. Ebonne deserves them!!
Last but not least, I have to include my personal blogger friend...
Shana with browngirlstylish.com. We connected on some real-ish type stuff, lol, and I think I love her even more for that! Her IG posts always come with a PHENOMENAL and meaningful quote that I enjoy reading. Her style is definitely girly, casual, cute, and mature mixed with a tad of street style.
BC: What are the top three favorite items in your closet?
BB: My American Eagle ripped boyfriend jeans. My black, high-neck, razor-front bodysuit. And my oversized, leopard, calf-hair clutch. Hands down, out the gate, I'm ready, lol.
BC: What's new or on the horizon for Her Guiltless Garb?
BB: Ooohhhh giirrllll, so many new things!! As you know, I'm launching a new site, so I have tons of new and exciting things coming. Subscribers will be able to receive LOTS of insider perks like free style look books, a chance to participate in an exciting monthly segment, valuable fashion content that you don't necessarily see on all of the other blogs, like how to style a white tee. Cuz I think every woman knows that now, lol. Girl, I'm so pumped!! You subscribed, honey? Well, when I'm up and running again, don't miss out. I promise you won't be sorry!
